  12. I moved into GTE country recently and have been getting lousy
  13. connect speed on V.34 calls, never above 21.6 on Rx.  I am about
  14. 22000 feet from the central office.  A friend of mine who lives
  15. closer to the CO gets much better throughput, 28k most of the
  16. time.

  18. It has been suggested that loading coils used on longer drops
  19. prevent V.34 from reaching its advertised speed.

  21. Or it may be some other problem.  I've tried some of the other
  22. lines into this location with similar results.  Normally, I do
  23. not hear noise or other impairments on any of these lines on
  24. voice calls.  (Some of the lines have been intermittently out of
  25. order, usually several at a time.)

  27. So what's the skinny on V.34?  Can one expect a V.34 to
  28. get good 28k connects on real world loaded phone lines?
